Winter into Spring
As I sit here waiting, waiting for a nor’easter to hit the region my thoughts are conflicting. We have had some spring-like weather already and it’s barely March. That spring-like weather launched my spring fever into gear.
As a person who is passionate about growing, I truly love the return of Spring. The renewal and rebirth of the sleeping northern world. I also thoroughly enjoy winter. I like the cooler temps, the fluffy stuff to play in, but on reflection, I think what I like the most is the time to plan. I am also a planner and I work best when I have a plan laid out and have a clear path forward. Winter, provides that time for me. The time to regroup, clean up, take inventory, reflect on the past season and plan ahead for the upcoming season. It is a time to sip some warm tea, snuggle with a blanket next to the wood stove, while looking out a window surrounded with my myriad of house and garden plants that come inside with me for the winter, to see the wintery world reappear in the window.
This recent little bit of spring-like weather provided a needed break from the cold and snow that rekindled the spring fever which has been simmering, patiently in the background of my being. It provided time to go out and look around to explore the garden and check on the waiting perennials. It allows the earth to whisper, “Yes, I will awaken soon.”. Be ready to move again soon.
As this nor’easter hits us, my thoughts are not on the snow and weather that will hit, but on the melt and the water it will provide for the renewal of the growing season and burst of life that will soon come from Mother Earth. Be ready.
